Description

Enjoy your delightful Festive Christmas Tree Cookies!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 56 tablespoons water
  • Red and green food coloring
  • Edible gold stars for decoration
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookie Dough:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
    • In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
    • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
    • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
    • Roll the dough into small balls and flatten slightly for the base of the trees.
    • Place on a lined baking sheet.
  2. Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
    • Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  3. Prepare the Royal Icing:
    • In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar and meringue powder.
    • Add water gradually until the icing is smooth but thick enough to hold its shape.
    • Divide the icing into two portions; color one part green and leave the other white.
  4. Decorate the Cookies:
    • Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to create the tree shape on each cookie. Start from the base, swirling upwards.
    • Add edible gold stars on top of each tree.
    • Sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles to mimic ornaments.

Notes

  • Ensure your dough is refrigerated for at least 30 minutes if it becomes too soft to handle.
  • If the icing is too runny, add more powdered sugar; if too thick, add a bit more water.
  • For added flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of almond extract to the dough.
