Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 tablespoons meringue powder
- 5–6 tablespoons water
- Red and green food coloring
- Edible gold stars for decoration
- Edible glitter or sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the Cookie Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
- Roll the dough into small balls and flatten slightly for the base of the trees.
- Place on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake the Cookies:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare the Royal Icing:
- In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar and meringue powder.
- Add water gradually until the icing is smooth but thick enough to hold its shape.
- Divide the icing into two portions; color one part green and leave the other white.
- Decorate the Cookies:
- Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to create the tree shape on each cookie. Start from the base, swirling upwards.
- Add edible gold stars on top of each tree.
- Sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles to mimic ornaments.
Notes
- Ensure your dough is refrigerated for at least 30 minutes if it becomes too soft to handle.
- If the icing is too runny, add more powdered sugar; if too thick, add a bit more water.
- For added flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of almond extract to the dough.
