Description
A delicious recipe for Swedish meatballs in a creamy sauce, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk; let them soak for a few minutes. Add the ground beef, ground pork, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix well until combined. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1-inch in diameter.
- Cook the Meatballs: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until evenly browned on all sides. Remove the meatballs and set aside.
- Make the Cream Sauce: In the same skillet, add the flour to the remaining butter. Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes until a light brown roux forms. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Allow it to simmer and thicken for a few minutes. Stir in the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- Combine: Return the meatballs to the skillet. Simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, allowing the meatballs to cook through and the flavors to meld.
- Serve: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the sauce.
- Ensure not to overmix the meat mixture to keep the meatballs tender.
- Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal.
