Description
Delicious pecan cinnamon rolls made with flaky puff pastry, toasted pecans, and a sweet glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/3 cup raw pecans
- 1 package frozen puff pastry (17 ounces/2 sheets) (thawed in the refrigerator overnight)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/3 cup light or dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon milk (plus 1 to 3 teaspoons as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the pecans on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until toasted, fragrant, and light tan inside when broken in half, about 8 to 12 minutes. Stir halfway through and don’t walk away during the last few minutes.
- Transfer to a cutting board, finely chop, and set aside.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- In a small bowl, stir together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- On a lightly floured surface, unfold 1 sheet of puff pastry. Roll it to a 10-inch square if not already. Brush lightly to edges with half the melted butter. Leaving a 1-inch border, sprinkle with half of the sugar mixture.
- Starting from the bottom, tightly roll the pastry up and away like a sleeping bag around the filling. End seam-side down. Trim about ½ inch from each end and discard.
- Slice the roll into 8 equal pieces, each about 1 1/3 inches wide. Arrange spiral side up on the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with the second sheet of puff pastry and remaining filling.
- Bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown on top and firm to touch.
- Place the pan on a wire rack. For a thinner glaze, add more milk 1 teaspoon at a time. For easy frosting, scoot the rolls on the parchment to touch at the edges, drizzle glaze over the top, and sprinkle with pecans. Let glaze set and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use good quality puff pastry like Pepperidge Farm for the best results.
- Watch the pecans closely while baking to avoid burning.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of milk in the glaze for desired thickness.
