Description
Delicious golden fried milk cubes that are creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare Milk Mixture:
In a saucepan, combine milk, cornstarch, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk continuously over medium heat until the mixture thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
- Set the Mixture:
Pour the thickened milk mixture into a greased square dish. Smooth the top and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent a skin from forming. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until fully set.
- Cut into Cubes:
Once set, remove the mixture from the dish and cut it into even cubes.
- Coat the Cubes:
Dredge each cube first in flour, then dip into beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Ensure each cube is evenly coated.
- Fry the Cubes:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the coated milk cubes in batches until golden brown, approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Notes
- Ensure the milk mixture is thickened well before setting; it should coat the back of a spoon.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the milk mixture.
- Be cautious with the oil temperature; too hot will burn the coating, and too cold will make them greasy.
- Serve warm, optionally with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of honey.
