Description
A rich and creamy holiday eggnog perfect for celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 5 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Whipped cream, for topping
- Fresh cranberries or cherries, for garnish
- Mint leaves, for garnish
Instructions
- Heat Milk and Cream: In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat gently over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and thick.
- Combine Mixtures: Gradually pour a little of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly to temper the eggs. Slowly add the rest of the milk, whisking continuously.
- Cook the Eggnog: Pour the mixture back into the saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of the spoon. Do not let it boil.
- Add Flavorings: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and ground nutmeg.
- Chill: Allow the eggnog to cool at room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours or until cold.
- Serve: Pour the chilled eggnog into glasses, top with whipped cream, and garnish with cranberries and mint leaves.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of rum or bourbon before chilling.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar according to your preference.
- For an extra touch of spice, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon along with the nutmeg.
